About Us

Community Councils are groups of people who have an interest in the development and well being of their community and who give their time to ensuring that the voice of the community is heard.

The Alva Community Council meets once a month and our main role is to consult with the local authority and other public bodies to represent the views of local people on all matters affecting them. The local authority in turn, has a duty to consult the Community Council on how local services are delivered and other issues affecting their community. Community Councils have the right to be consulted on any planning and licensing applications in their area.

Alva Community Council meets every second Monday of the month (except in July and August). One of the key objectives is to seek and acknowledge the views of the residents. These meetings are open to all local residents where they can raise matters of concern. This is one of the ways you can be part of the community and make yourself heard on any decision that affects the public life of Alva.

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Stirling Community Hospital has now moved to a new location on the ground floor of the former maternity unit.

The re-vamped facility remains open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week and is staffed by emergency nurse practitioners who can prescribe medication and provide treatment for a wide range of minor injuries. These include minor burns and scalds, infected wounds, sprains, cuts and grazes. Staff can also examine and treat minor injuries to the eye, ear, head and neck areas and arrange X-rays for suspected broken bones.

Although based in Stirling, the MIU offers treatment to patients across Forth Valley. Staff can treat and assess adults and children over the age of one year (children under the age of one with a minor injury should be taken direct to the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert).

There is no need to make an appointment and patients who attend are seen and treated quickly.

We are keen to raise awareness of this important health facility and encourage local people to make use of it. This will help us to reduce pressure on the busy Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and ensure that staff working there can focus on treating patients with serious and life threatening injuries which require urgent care.

The relocation of the Minor Injuries Unit to the former maternity unit will also allow demolition work to begin on The Queen Elizabeth Wing, as planned. This work is expected to start in the next few weeks.

Details of the MIU and the services it provides can be found on the NHS Forth Valley website:

Message from Pastor David Fraser - “LAST”, is a Hillfoots Youth Event coordinated by the communities along Menstrie, Alva & Tillicoultry. It will happen every other month, the first event was held at the Ochils Coffee Mill in January.  About 40 young people gathered for music and refreshments, a ‘micro-talk’ from a member of the faith community and an open mic where anyone was invited to come up and speak or perform.  “Last” will happen again on March 27th at Hillfoots Evangelical Church in Tillicoultry @ 7pm.
